Planning with people
aged 60 and over caring for someone with a
learning disability.
Are you...

 • Living in the Northwest of England?
 • Aged 60 years old or over?
 • Caring for someone with a learning
disability in your home?
• Wanting to plan for the future?
If so, we may be able to help.
Caring for a family member with a learning disability is a lifelong commitment.

Many older carers have health problems of their own.

They may also be caring for another family member with health problems.

Older carers can find it difficult to get involved in planning for the future due to various factors such as:

 • Transport problems in attending meetings
 • Fear of change
 • Poor past experiences
 • Lack of trust
 • Heard it all before
• Not having time to plan
There are around 29,000 people with a learning disability in the UK living with a carer aged 70 or over.
How can we help?

• We can meet with you to talk about your needs now and in the future.

• Provide assistance and information regarding
Support, Benefits, Housing Options, Wills and Trusts.

• Work with you in accessing suitable services.

• Help you plan for the future.

• Help to avoid a crisis.

• We understand that each family’s needs are different.
We will use a person-centred approach in working with you.
“I just want to know he will be alright when I have gone”
